  33. It will work to use either but if you care about performance you
  34. should consider an ethernet connection if the machines are in
  35. the same building.  You can run the 'samba' file server on
  36. the unix host and Windows-for-Workgroups as a client and simply
  37. have the PC create the files transparently on the host's drive
  38. in the first place, or share the WFW drive and copy from the
  39. unix host with smbclient which is sort of like ftp.   Or use
  40. any of the usual tcp/ip tools to move files.  If you really
  41. have to use a serial connection you could still use one of
  42. the slip/ppp winsock interfaces like trumpet and use the
  43. tcp/ip tools.  You can't use WFW/samba over trumpet, but you
  44. could do it with Win95 and its slip/ppp connection.  The
  45. advantage of going this route is that you can switch to a
  46. network connection with no change except speed.  And with either
  47. the slip or network link you get access to all the other
  48. machines on the network, not just the one at the end of
  49. the serial line, and you can use it from the other windows
  50. sessions as well.  I think you can run the Windows version
  51. of UUPC over tcp/ip on the winsock link (along with other
  52. things).  Unfortunately you can't do that with kermit so if
  53. you start that way you'll have to change to go with a
  54. networked Windows 3.11 system.
